SPECIAL EVENT Music in Rembrandt's World by Repast Baroque Ensemble Thursday, August 9, 20127 – 8 p.m. Pillsbury Auditorium Artists: Amelia Roosevelt, baroque violin; John Mark Rozendaal, viola da gamba; Avi Stein, harpsichord. With guests Nell Snaidas, soprano; and Claire Jolivet, baroque violin.
Amsterdam in the 17th century enjoyed a musical life that included both native musical productions and contributions from abroad?including French opera, Italian instrumental music, and the works of English contrapuntists.
Acclaimed by the New York Times, Repast is a collaboration of three period-instrument virtuosi presenting vivid renditions of music of the baroque era. Repast enjoys frequent and fruitful collaborations with leading period instrument players and vocalists in order to explore the vast, masterful repertoire of the baroque era.
The evening's program includes works by Monteverdi, Locke, Jenkins, Sweelinck, Mazzocchi, and Merula.

IN THE GALLERIES Explore art that's weathered with age, records time, or changes over time. Discover an enormous colorful work of sand art that wasn't made to last. Examine the effects of time on the surface of paintings and sculpture. IN THE STUDIO Work with materials that change before your eyes and through exposure to sun, wind, and water. Design your own temporary tattoos. Make art that changes over time. MATERIALS Bubbles, tempera paint, Sunprint paper, chalk.
